Christian living is dependent on the authority of scripture. 2 Timothy 3:14: “All Scripture, including the Bible, is breathed out and profitable by God. This allows the man who is a believer in God to be fully equipped for all good work.” Because Scripture comes from an infallible and perfect God, it is flawless and perfect. Richard L. Mayhue argues that understanding and accepting God’s sovereignty is as easy and simple as accepting God Himself.
In 2 Timothy 3:15, Paul continues to refer to “the sacred writtens,” which most likely corresponds broadly with the Old Testament. This is a worrying trend in the church today. Christians must be able to speak biblical truth. This means that they need to affirm the authority of scripture. The New Testament provides a great example of how we should respond to God’s word as holy, just, true, and complete.
The book Genesis is full of great information about family and marriage. God clearly states that marriage is a sacred relationship that is marked by permanence and sacredness, intimacy and mutuality. Genesis 2-24 is God’s revelation on marriage and family beliefs. Scripture clearly demonstrates that God created the earth, animals, as well as man. Genesis 1:27 says, “So God created man in his own image.” God created them in the image and likeness of God. In Corinthians 14:33, God’s order is mentioned in the Bible. Jesus, speaking to Judea crowds, stated that “They are not longer two but one,” and that “let no one separate what God has joined together.” Mark 10:9. God’s wisdom and words were not limited to the Old Testament. Jesus, God’s Son, was sent to proclaim that God is true.
God’s biblical teachings about children and families can be found at the beginning of Genesis. Genesis 1:22 reads, “God blessed them” and says, “Be fertile and increase your number; the fill land and subdue them.” God encourages Christians to be faithful to his teachings and share them with their children. Jeremiah 1:15 shows God’s sovereign control over everything. “It’s incumbent upon the church and the wider culture to teach both themselves and the greater culture about God’s plans for marriage.
Today, many people want to redefine God’s Word about marriage and families. “Scholars even mention the postmodernist relationship as a way to redefine God’s Word on marriage and families.” Genesis 2.24, for example, says that God does not endorse the marriage of identical sexes.
We conclude by pointing out that the biblical marriage foundation is a profoundly spiritual and significant covenant. Its significance is both in the Kingdom, as well as in our society.
